I saw this t-shirt in a catalog that says “I feel a sin coming on”. I always wanted to buy it. But I want it to spell “sin”, “Cyn”. Everybody has a nickname. That one’s mine.
When I was born my mother named me Cynthia Lu. All while growing up I was Cindy. Cindy Pierce. That would be me. Somewhere around my 25th birthday I decided that Cindy was a little girl’s name so I went to Cynthia. No one called me Cindy anyway. Okay, people called me that but the people closest to me always called me Cyn. It was short for Cindy, it was short for Cynthia. Shoot, it was short for Cinderella. But I didn’t want to introduce myself to people as “Cyn”. I decided people that didn’t know me well had to call me Cynthia. But I didn’t like anybody calling me Cindy. It always reminded me of an 8 year old little girl. And I was not an 8 year old little girl.
People didn’t take Cindy serious. I was sure that they would take Cynthia serious. They didn’t really but at least I didn’t have to be reminded that I was just an 8 year old little girl.
Someone once told me that we all have a little girl (or boy) inside of us that we, as adults still had to take care of. I agreed. Cindy was my little girl personality. She had to be taken care of. Cynthia did that. Of course, Cyn was the fun, energetic, smart, creative person that I wanted to be. Could we all be one and the same? For a long time I didn’t think so.
Cindy threw temper tantrums. Cynthia was the disciplinarian. She was in charge. She was tired. Cyn didn’t get to come out much.
She does now.
Cyn rules the roost in my life. She is always looking for opportunities to be professional and successful. That keeps Cynthia happy. She lets Cindy come out and play sometimes. She also protects Cindy so that Cynthia doesn’t have to get mean and nasty. As long as she keeps that balance everything is just fine.
Cyn is always looking for the fun in the situation. She likes to have a good time. More importantly she wants everybody else to have a good time. She’s always looking. Cyn has a lot of energy. Cynthia goes to bed early. She takes Cindy with her. They both get cranky if they get tired. Cyn can stay up late, just goofing off. Of course, sometimes she pays for it, getting up late. But her creative juices are always flowing and she has to have time to capture all of that. Cyn is smart. She’s not overly intelligent. She leaves that to Cynthia. But she is wise. She is wise beyond her years. There are some things she just knows. And it doesn’t matter to her if you know that she knows. She is satisfied that she just knows. Cyn is very creative. She is looking for the different in everything. She loves to take pictures because she sees things differently than others do. She wants to show everyone that picture from her perspective. She does the same thing with her writing. She has a different way of looking at something and she just might have to analyze that in her writing. You never know what she’s going to come up with next.
Cyn is someone that you might want to get to know. Cindy and Cynthia can be a lot of fun, in the right situation. Cyn is always a lot of fun. You should get to know her.
