I went to the doctor today mainly because I had been feeling like crap all week & the NyQuil & Mucinex weren’t doing the job. I had a long list of symptoms but all I wanted was Cheracol. They’ve given it to me before. My mama used to give it to me when I was little. It got to where you had to ask the pharmacist for it and then it just disappeared. It didn’t. You just had to have a prescription for it. As an adult the doctor gave it to me when I told him I just needed that cough medicine that Mama used to give me. It had codeine in it. It was basically hydrocodone.
So when I went to the doctor today I asked for it by name. The PA had never heard it called that. But he gave me a shot and called my prescriptions into the pharmacy. When I went to the CVS they were covered up with people with the crud & I was going to have to wait. I asked them what had been called in & they told me an antibiotic. I asked about the cough medicine. Nope. So I called the doctor’s office. It is Friday afternoon after all.
The nurse argued with me about me not having a cough. I told her that the doctor was worried that this bronchitis was going to turn into pneumonia. But she said that I didn’t tell them I had a cough. I argued. She told me to get some robitussin or Mucinex. I told her that I had had this conversation with the PA & they weren’t doing any good. She said that she would ask him.
Since I didn’t want to wait for the prescription to be called in I told her we’d come back since I needed to get something to eat. When I got back & picked up my prescription it was not a cough syrup. It was a pill that would keep my lungs from a spasm and there you go. Of course the doctor is closed until Monday so no Cheracol for me.
One of my symptoms was diarrhea and the antibiotic causes diarrhea that can last for weeks.
I know that there is an opioid crisis and I know that codeine is an opioid. I also know that I hoard that stuff because you might need it in an emergency, like right now. So I’m not going to use it for recreational purposes.
I have half a mind to call the doctor on Monday and ask for them to call in the Cheracol. Maybe I should go to the Readi-Care tomorrow and see if they’ll call it in. I know my body pretty well and I’ll be fighting this bronchitis the rest of the winter. That stuff has been the only thing that works.
I think I’ll go drink some tea with bourbon & honey.
A lot of bourbon.
